Vision Boarding!

·

-A How To Guide-

Vision Boards are so much fun! They bring so much joy– dreaming up a goal and what you want it to feel like when you achieved that goal. Many people have created them and use them to keep track of their goals while some have instead swapped setting New Year’s Resolutions to create a Vision Board for their lives! When making your Vision board, it’s important to keep in mind that you are setting INTENTIONS, not goals. Goals have a purpose and can be measured usually with a step-by-step guide, timeline, or tally which means they have an ending. Intentions hold a purpose in your life and its life long growth.

So, once you decide to make a vision board your next step would be to collect pictures that represent the intention you want for your life. Let’s say you want to become a dancer. You would look for pictures in books, magazines, online, newspapers, etc. that portrayed dancing, the process of becoming a dancer, places it would take you, where you would like to dance, etc, and then glue them onto a large board with colorful and attractive sayings, stickers and quotes that are motivational and awe-inspiring. Arrange them in a way that flows or makes sense to you! You can keep it simple or make it more detailed. It’s all about you and what appeals to you the most! Use your creativity to guide you on how you want to make your Vision Boards look! Nowadays aesthetics is a movement, not just a word, so some use Vision Boards just to create an aesthetic board. Those are fine if you just like the artistry of a collage board, but in my opinion, aesthetic boards or collages, don’t keep you focused on your intentions, collages are more of a daydream, while Vision Boards help you stay focused on the life you really want to live!

Scientists have actually proven that Vision Boards are effective and are more than just a collage or “look book”. Research has shown Vision Boards to:

  1. Improve Self Awareness
  2. Improve Self Reflection
  3. Increase Positivity in our own lives and future
  4. Help create Positivity
  5. Increase chances of success

Knowing what you want for yourself is the first step in creating a vision board and manifesting what you would like your life to look like! But it starts with YOU!

I’m a Mental Health Coach and Facilitator for Selfie Care Therapy. I run Guided group journaling sessions on Saturdays, we usually do journal prompts, centering and breathing exercises, reflections, and discussions (only if we want to). But, sometimes we do fun activities like Vision Board Parties and other fun moments that inspire and create growth.

On July 20th we held a Vision Board Party explaining what Vision Boards are and the purpose they have. In the Vision Board Party, I explained that vision Boards need 3 tools from within to make Vision Boards effective!

  1. You need a purpose for what you put on your Vision Board
  2. Understanding of Visualization and Manifestation
  3. An Open Mind

Those 3 ingredients combined with a clear vision for your life, assist you in bringing everything you could want to the forefront of your mind! When you understand the Laws of Attraction it makes it extremely easy to manifest, therefore making everything possible! If you’re just beginning and you aren’t sure what you want to put on your Vision Board, here are a few topics you can start with:

  1. Career
  2. Money
  3. Love
  4. Health
  5. Travel
  6. Social Goals
  7. Whatever Your Heart Desires

You can make a Vision Board with one specific goal like paying off debt or combine them all together on one board, like we did!

Vision Boards are a great way to manifest your life just how you want it to be! There’s no special recipe for how you design it. The most important aspect you want to maintain is the board’s effectiveness and accuracy for what you want. The boarding process is supposed to be fun and maybe a little chaotic, but in a way that doesn’t overwhelm you or your brain.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion on why Vision Boards have become somewhat popular but important on your journey to creating the life you want! Let me know if you’ve set the intentions on your life using this process and how it’s worked out for you!!

Until Next Time,

Happy Boarding!
